Description |
Rolex Submariner No Date (Ref 5512) - « Meters First »*
1968 - Automatic - Certified Chronometer Automatic 1560 caliber - Steel Fully genuine (!) Black dial (original and in perfect condition) signed Applied indexes Original hands (very lightly topicalized) Central seconds hand The watch features a “meters first” dial with four lines of text, reminiscent of the four-line “Big Crown” Submariners of the 1950’s Bi-directional rotating bezel (genuine) Numbered: 1829447 (Indicates the date of the watch) Diameter: 40 mm. (43 mm. with crown) Thickness: 14 mm Stainless steel back signe on verso Rolex 1560 caliber 25 jewels - 18.000 A/h Power reserve: 44 Hours Brown leather bracelet; Rolex buckle (+/- 20 cm. watch incl.) The watch is in very good condition (!) By chance, my watchmaker worked during fifteen years for Rolex before opening his own workshop. He serviced and fully checked every detail. The watch is fully genuine (bracelet excepted) but crown, screws, bridge, etc. are original. A certificate of authenticity will be offered with the watch. Maintenance: March 2021 No need to say it is an authentic collector (!) Original box and papers are missing, but the watch will be offered with a nice travelling case (wood or leather) THE FULL STORY * Produced from 1962 to 1989, the "no date" version of the Submariner underwent many changes throughout its production, making it the delight of any attentive collector today. Our copy is one of the first to have abandoned the gilt dial for matt, since it is from the year of this evolution, 1966. These dials, whith depth first entered in meters, here 200m = 660 ft, will only be produced until 1969 before the inversion (660ft - 200m). At a quick glance the reference 5512 looks almost identical to the reference 5513, however the 5512 was fitted with a chronometer-certified movement whereas the 5513 was not. The caliber 1570 that was used in the 5512’s underwent timing tests conducted by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres), a Swiss company that certifies accuracy of movements after passing their specifications. |
