Oris Artelier

The Artelier collection from Oris manages to combine the technical subtleties of the brand's diving and pilot's watches with the elegance of classic dress watches. Regardless whether you choose a simple three-hand watch, a chronograph, or a watch with intricate skeletonization, these watches look just as good with formal wear as they do with a t-shirt and jeans.

The real stars of this collection are the models Artelier Calibre 111, Artelier Calibre 112, and Artelier Calibre 113. They use the in-house movements 111, 112, and 113, respectively. These movements are based on the Calibre 110 produced in 2014 to celebrate Oris's 110th anniversary.

All four movements are hand-wound and have an extra large barrel, giving them impressive 10-day power reserves. You'll always know when the movement needs to be wound thanks to the patented, non-linear power reserve indicator. Its scale gets more and more accurate the longer the watch has been running.

The movement in the Calibre 111 watch provides it with a power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock and both a date display and small seconds dial at 9 o'clock. This 43-mm timepiece is available with either a stainless steel or 18-karat rose gold case. In addition to white or ivory, the dial comes with a blue, brown, silver, or anthracite-colored sunburst. For the band, you have a choice between blue, brown, or black crocodile leather or a stainless steel bracelet.

Prices for an Artelier Calibre 111 start at around 3,700 euros for the stainless steel version with a silver or anthracite dial. The blue version costs about 5,400 euros. If you would prefer a watch with a rose gold case, be prepared to spend around 10,200 euros.

Oris added a second time zone to the Artelier Calibre 112, which is displayed on a subdial at 12 o'clock. The day/night display is found in the same position and shows a small sun or moon depending on the time of day. The small seconds dial was relocated between 7 and 8 o'clock. The date window and power reserve indicator sit at 9 and 3 o'clock, respectively.

This watch comes with either a silvery-white or dark blue dial. The hour and minute hands have a coating of SuperLuminova luminous material. An Artelier Calibre 112 with a crocodile leather band and a light dial costs just under 4,600 euros, while the version with a dark dial costs about 50 euros more. If you are looking for a watch with a stainless steel bracelet, be sure to set aside almost 5,000 euros. The light dial is also available with an 18-karat rose gold bezel. Prices for one of these watches start around 5,700 euros.

In addition to the date display and small seconds dial at 9 o'clock and the power reserve indicator at 3, the Artelier Calibre 113 has three more interesting features. A day display is located at 12 o'clock beneath the Oris logo. What's more, a central hand displays both the month and calendar week. Oris calls this type of display a "business calendar".

This 43-mm stainless steel watch has either a silvery-white or anthracite-colored dial. The crocodile leather band comes in various shades of brown, gray, and black. Stainless steel bracelets are also available.

Regardless which version you choose, prices for an Artelier Calibre 113 start just below 4,400 euros.

The Artelier Skeleton is particularly eye-catching. There is a generous hole in the dial offering a fantastic view of the finely skeletonized and ornate Oris 734 (based on the SW 200-1) beneath the double domed sapphire glass. The outer silvery-white guilloché dial is extremely detailed and features easy-to-read indices. The addition of SuperLuminova-coated hands means you will always be able to tell the time. A screw-down mineral glass case back completes this 40-mm stainless steel watch.

You can purchase an Artelier Skeleton with a crocodile leather band starting at 1,590 euros. The model with a stainless steel bracelet demands just under 1,700 euros. If you would rather have a gold-plated bezel, expect to pay an additional 100 euros. Prices for the 31-mm women's watch are quite similar and range from 1,550 to 1,700 euros.

Diamonds replace the indices as hour markers in the Artelier Skeleton Diamonds, giving it an extra touch of class. Plan to spend around 2,100 euros for a men's watch. Prices for the women's watches start around 2,000 euros and go all the way up to 3,350 euros for the version with 72 additional diamonds on the bezel.

Oris takes things a step further with the Artelier Translucent Skelton. Not only did they do away with the dial, they also decided on an extra large double domed mineral glass case back. This makes the skeleton watch nearly transparent. The brackets supporting the movement also function as its hour markers, making the watch quite easy to read.

Prices for the Artelier Translucent Skeleton range from 1,890 euros for the stainless steel version to 2,790 euros for the model with an 18-karat rose gold bezel.

The details are what make the Artelier Date a perfect dress watch. The 40-mm stainless steel case is paired with a fine guilloché dial in white or dark gray. A date display sits at 6 o'clock, and the band comes in either brown, black, or blue crocodile leather or stainless steel. Versions with an 18-karat rose gold bezel or yellow gold plating are also available.

Be sure to have around 1,000 euros on hand if you're interested in owning an Artelier Date. Should you opt for a model with a rose gold bezel, be prepared for prices around 2,300 euros.

The Artelier Chronometer Date promises outstanding accuracy. Its Oris caliber 737 is based on the SW 200-1 and has been certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) as proof of its especially high accuracy. This chronometer costs just under 1,400 euros with a brown leather band. Plan to spend about 200 euros more for one with a stainless steel bracelet.

Thanks to the Oris caliber 623, which is based on the ETA 2895-2, the Artelier Date Small Second has a small seconds dial. It is located at 6 o'clock along with the date display. In terms of design, you can choose between a light or dark dial as well as a stainless steel bracelet or crocodile leather strap. Versions with leather straps cost under 1,500 euros, while those with stainless steel bracelets are priced around 1,600 euros.

With 33-mm, 31-mm, and 28-mm cases, the Artelier Date Diamonds is geared toward women in particular. The men's watches have larger cases and feature diamonds on the dial and bezel in some models. Depending on the number of diamonds, expect to pay between 1,550 and 3,000 euros.

The Artelier Date Grande Lune was also made with women in mind. Its silver dial not only uses diamonds for the hour markers, but also contains a beautifully designed moon phase display. Sitting at 12 o'clock, this display shows a shimmering, lifelike Moon surrounded by stars on a midnight blue background. You can buy a model with a blue or black crocodile leather strap for under 1,700 euros. The price for the version with a stainless steel bracelet sits at 1,850 euros.

The Artelier Date Grande Lune Diamonds features 72 diamonds around its bezel. You can buy this timepiece for between 3,100 and 3,250 euros depending on your choice of band.

Oris has been releasing limited edition watches dedicated to famous jazz musicians for quite a while now. Some examples are the Dexter Gordon Limited Edition from 2016 and the Thelonious Monk Limited Edition from 2015. Both watches exude a simple elegance and have fine details that call to mind images of their namesakes.

The second hand on the Dexter Gordon Limited Edition is extra long in reference to Gordon's height, and the index marker at 12 o'clock is shaped like the reed of a saxophone. Like the famous pianist himself, the Thelonious Monk Limited Edition is very minimalistic. There is neither a date display nor a second hand, and the hour markers are represented by simple small dots. Oris used eleven minute markers instead of the usual ten between 10 and 12 o'clock as a nod to Monk's preference for dissonance and improvisation.

Both watches have a limited run of 1,000 pieces, come in an exclusive wooden case, and cost around 1,400 euros.

You can also find more intricately designed watches in the Artelier collection. One example is the 44-mm Artelier Chronograph with a stopwatch function, small seconds dial, date display, and subdials for a 30-minute and 12-hour counter. The price of this watch starts around 2,000 euros.

The Artelier Worldtimer is just as interesting. It has a subdial for the second time zone and day/night display at 3 o'clock. There is also a small seconds dial at 9 o'clock and a date display at 6. Plan to spend just under 1,800 euros for one of these watches.

The Artelier Complication takes its name to heart and unifies an elegant appearance with complex functions. It features subdials for the date and day, a second time zone, and a moon phase indicator. Expect prices between 1,500 and 2,700 euros depending on your choice of either a monochrome stainless steel model or one with a rose gold bezel.
