A Hunt for the Best Breitling Watches Under $5,000

The Cheapest Breitling Watches

Breitling is one of the most popular watch brands out there and is often mentioned in the same breath as Rolex and Omega. In contrast to the latter two, however, Breitling’s range includes comparatively cheap watches for novices and bargain hunters. We’re introducing four interesting Breitling models that you can find for less than $5,000.

Breitling Endurance Pro – approx. $2,500

Breitling’s modus operandi has always been to produce professional-grade instruments. Thus, their designs go beyond just telling the time and meet all the requirements one would expect from a watch suitable for any sporting or professional use. The Endurance Pro packs this principle into a modern case with state-of-the-art technology.

The watch is marketed as a sports chronograph for everyday life that can withstand just about any activity. The Breitling Endurance Pro has an ultra-light case that weighs just 35.5 g, making it significantly lighter than stainless steel and even titanium. The proprietary material that it is made of, known as Breitlight, is antimagnetic, hypoallergenic, and highly resistant to scratches and corrosion. The sports chronograph is powered by a COSC-certified SuperQuartz caliber, which ensures top performance.

With its bidirectional rotating bezel, date function, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and 100 m (328 ft) of water resistance, the watch is not only well-equipped for everyday life, but also for more adventurous pursuits. Colorful accents on the dial and bracelet underscore the model’s sportiness. This 44-mm timepiece is ideal if you are in the market for a functional sports watch around the $2,500 mark.

Breitling Colt – approx. $2,500

The Breitling Colt is only available on the secondary market. In contrast to the Breitling Superocean mentioned below, Breitling has yet to introduce a successor model to the Colt. I, for one, can certainly understand the rationale behind the complete discontinuation of the model. The Colt is strikingly similar to the recently revamped Breitling Avenger, which, in my opinion, is at least as iconic as the Breitling Chronomat or Navitimer. Keeping the more popular model line going obviously makes more sense than trying to market both watches parallel to one another.

The Breitling Colt is very reminiscent of the Breitling Avenger and available for around $2,500.

The good news is that the model’s discontinuation means that you can get your hands on one for around the $2,500 mark. However, be sure to exercise some caution here. With a diameter of 44 mm, you’ll definitely need a hefty wrist or at least be very fond of large watches to pull it off – but that is the typical Breitling look, right?

Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 – approx. $3,500

I wanted to include a few different discontinued references in this list in addition to those in the current Breitling portfolio. Another retired model is the Breitling Superocean Automatic 42, an incredible modern diver that exudes a maritime charm, especially the version with a white dial. Together with a dark blue bezel, the 42-mm diver has a fresh, summery look that watch lovers will find difficult to resist.

The Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 is one of the most beautiful divers of our time.

Although you have to make do with a modified ETA movement, the Breitling boasts everything you could wish for from a diving watch: a sapphire crystal, water resistance to 500 m (1,640 ft), and an unusual diving bezel that sets this version apart from the current rendition. The insert is made of high-quality rubber and features applied numerals and indices. With a market price of approx. $3,500, I would take this model over the new version any day.

Breitling Chronomat GMT – approx. $5,000

Enough with the discontinued Breitlings, let’s take a closer look at the current lineup. If you can part with $5,000, you have the chance to purchase one of the most successful Breitling watches to date: the Breitling Chronomat GMT.

No, this isn’t a massive aviation icon, but rather an extremely wearable all-rounder that looks great with any attire. Measuring in at 40 mm, it suits most wrists, but thanks to the typical bezel rider tabs and Rouleaux bracelet, you don’t have to miss out on the classic Chronomat aesthetic.

The Breitling Chronomat GMT has a refined, sporty look.

But it’s not just the looks that are impressive here, the technology is also on point. The automatic movement has a practical date function at 6 o’clock, and the eye-catching red hand can be used to keep track of a second time zone. Priced under $5,000 for an unworn copy, this stunner of a watch is a very attractive option to consider. Affordable pricing aside, the Breitling Chronomat GMT is still one of the biggest highlights from the current Breitling portfolio.

Great Variety on a Small Budget

Whether you’re after a typical aviator, robust diver, or sporty all-rounder, Breitling offers an incredibly wide selection of different models for watch lovers on a tight budget. Fans would be wise to consider the brand’s icons like the Breitling Avenger, Breitling Navitimer, and Breitling Chronomat, but shouldn’t shy away from models like the Breitling Superocean or Chronomat, which likewise have everything you could wish for from a luxury watch.

My personal favorite is the Breitling Chronomat GMT. With a diameter of 40 mm and striking sporty look, this all-arounder has won me over. And with a price point around $5,000, the successful model certainly holds its own against the competition and deserves a second look.
